Today is Jeanine's birthday!
We decided to explore Humacao today as I had a bit of shopping to do. On the way to town, we passed these trees within Las Palmas del Mar. At first I thought they were Banyan Trees, but now I'm not so sure.
Humacao was difficult to navigate, with very narrow streets (even the highway) and all one-way. It wasn't even as if the one-way streets went alternately different directions. There might be 3-4 all going east before there was one going west. What a mess!
Another problem is that the streets are not marked as to
whether or not they are a one-way street.
If it is a two-way street, it is barely two lanes wide, and parking is
allowed. No matter which way you
are going, there may be cars parked facing you because they only park on one
side of the street, no matter which direction they are going. If a car is coming at you and there is
a parked car facing you, it looks like you are heading into a one-way street,
even if you are not. Because the
street is so narrow, only one car can get around the parked car at a time,
meaning someone has to wait for the opposite car to pass first. Jim says, “If you don’t just stick your
foot to the floor, you’ll be waiting there all day.”
Returning to our resort at La Cala after our excursion, we went to the beach by the Windham Garden Hotel and Casino, a beautiful facility. At the beach, we saw red NO SWIMMING flags up, probably due to high waves and the constant undertow here. Still there were kids playing in the surf, with indulgent parents standing onshore watching them.
We saw this sign attached to a tree.
The grounds at the Windham are fantastic, with the golf course running through the property. The pool is a series of multi-level pools that looked so inviting. Everywhere there were small lakes.
Finally, we went swimming again before bed. Jim is fascinated by how much warmer the ocean is than this heated pool.
